For me, there is none more a distinct sound that reminds me of camping at Hill End than that of the currawong in the morning, crystal and clear through the silence.
It was precisely 7.08am and real cold, not a cloud in the sky. The dew point was high, everything was iced up and saturated. I unzipped the tent window and photographed the morning…

I quickly zipped up the window and dug myself under the covers, there was no way I was getting out of bed early! 🥱 💤
Then at 8am my bladder got the better of me! The joys of getting old.
Everything was iced up, not even the warmth of the starlink was melting the ice.

Next up after brushing my teeth and washing my face was a cup of golden syrup, boy was it needed!

The sun was starting to creep over and bring some much needed warmth, I decided to start slowly packing while waiting for the tent to dry.

I also took the opportunity to have a warm shower and freshen up, another one of the advantages of camping at Hill End during winter.
By the time it hit 11am all was dry and I was packed and ready to head to Mudgee!

Via Green Valley for another firewood top up!

I must admit, I left Mudgee feeling very deflated. Old mate in front of me scored the last slice of carrot cake.
Next stop, a crispy cold Woolshed Flat campground at Turon National Park. With firewood stacked and a laid back beverage consumed I had an unexpected local pay a visit.

Before long the sun had set over the ridge line and the cold set in, with fire roaring I decided to do what any grown man would in the middle of winter. Consume the rest of the port!

With wobbly legs, I climbed the ladder and retired for the night.
