Managed to kill two birds with a single stone in this expedition! What was originally slated for two nights became a single night and the opportunity to check out a vehicle for my son that was conveniently located at Sunny Corner.
If I fast forward a moment; as we were about 50m out from the driveway I sung out to Paul over the UHF “there’s the ute”, his only comment was “it looks schmick”.
We parked up and walked along the driveway to be met by the owner, I introduced myself and then turned back looking at Paul and said, “this is my mate Wombat” only to realise that I’m now a little too well versed in calling him by his nickname!

Anyway, back to the real reason why you’re reading this chronicle…
Just like most camps, it started with a dogs eye and some kind of pastry. I was pleasantly surprised with the ‘pie of the day’; steak and cheese.

The plan was to head to the Turon and camp riverside at a previously traversed spot earlier this year (Camp #3 – 2025; Touring the Upper Turon).

After a bit of deviation to check out another spot which was a little too undulated and more suited to swags, we turned back and decided to cut across a very slow flowing Turon to see if there were any other alternatives to the original plan.

With not a soul in sight and potential spot, after potential spot at our beckoning we finally pulled up stumps.

The Turon River is a stunning space on the planet, it meanders and snakes its way from the junction of Jews and Williwa Creeks all the way to the mighty Macquarie River. In good years there’s a consistent flow and trout rise in the upper reaches while native species wait to ambush their prey in the lower sections. Unfortunately by the looks of it we are about to head into some bad years…

After a few too many beers consumed under the shade of the awning talking 4wd’s, blue falcon utes and all kinds of shit we decided it was time for dinner. For a bloated me that meant unpacking the sandwich press and going for the tried and tested toastie; the ham, salami, cheese and tomato variant.

No guessing what was for dessert?

With the heat of the day slowly coming to an end and storm clouds rolling in we called it a very early night.
Next morning following a quick breakfast and brew we hit the road.
