Getting away on a late February Friday arvo after a long work week is a pretty great feeling, stopping off at a lookout on Mt Victoria to eat a burger and chips makes it even better!
And what a sweet spot it is, overlooking the Megalong Valley on a picture perfect late afternoon enjoying the last few weeks before day light savings ends.

Circumvent a couple of hours, Brad and I had just set up camp at Woolshed Flat in the Turon National Park and I’d cracked open a icy cold can of Stone & Wood BIG Pale Ale.

The night was pretty quiet, the bugs were out in force and the small fire was doing an admirable job of keeping the bugs away. In the distance a couple of four wheel drives came hooning down into the campground with reckless abandon, so reckless in fact that they tried making their own tracks until a wombat hole stopped the lead vehicle in its tracks…

Once the commotion had cleared and peace was restored; I sat back near the campfire, finished consuming my beer and took in the joy of watching Brad marvel at the joy of exploring places in his new rig.

It wasn’t long before morning arrived and the pack up began, though not before taking in the amazing spot on the Turon.

We made our way to the Mudgee bakery for the usual pie and pastries, then driving back to Ilford and down the windy to Sofala where we stopped by the pub for a cool beverage on a sensational late summers day.

Once beverages were consumed we continuted to drive along the meandering Upper Turon Rd, crossing the Turon River multiple times to our camp spot which was an absolute cracker perched by the river!

The Turon is such a mesmerising place, it’s rugged beauty and charm brings me back over and over, no matter how many times I bid it farewell.

After dinner and a log splitting exercise, darkness set in and we got the fire roaring with the flicker of the flames the only sound breaking the silence.

And after a peaceful night sleep with the sun breaking through the top of the valley we broke camp and made our way along the Upper Turon Rd to Capertee; literally back to where the adventure began…

As always, can’t wait until the next adventure!
