Another cool high country morning, with the sun rising over the trees in the yonder the prospect of a cracking day was on the cards and so was a sleep in 🙂

Ghost Gully with all its niceties is likely a campground I will drive through but not stop by in any future trips to Long Plain. It’s quite an open ground with the Port Phillip Fire Trail passing right through the guts of it. Every car, 4wd and ute driving through caused a dust storm to blow which ever way the wind fancied; unfortunately this was mostly through camp!
With Brad making his way back to the big apple I decided to check out Perkins Flat campground and possibly stay the night.

The drive on Long Plain Rd is quite lengthy and not long after passing the turn off to Broken Cart Trail the descent alongside the power lines begins to the Goodradigbee River and Perkins Flat. The track is dusty, made even worse by a large section of recently graded section – the reprieve being some amazing scenery.
Perkins Flat is an absolutely amazing campground, stunning and remote – bumf#%k middle of nowhere remote and I did not pass another vehicle or see another person.

With the day starting to slip away and the harsh realisation of being so remote and solo I decided to head back to where it began and stay the night at Denison; and try get a few hours of fishing at sunset.
The trip out from Perkins Flat to the Snowy Mountains Hwy takes a couple hours and if I didn’t mention earlier is very dusty!
I stopped in at Denison to sus out what camp spots were available, made myself a couple of sandwiches for dinner and chilled out taking in the surroundings.

About an hour pre-sunset I made my way to Providence Portal to have a crack at some fishing on the lake (I find just on sunset to be the most productive time).
Productive it wasn’t – well I dropped a couple of fish so it wasn’t that bad, and time on the water fishing is always better than being at work!

I decided to head back to Denison just after 9pm, set up the tent, get the fire cranking and have a nice cool amber beverage.
The night was warm and the wind gusty, my first night in a roof top tent with winds howling – the tent held up well.
After a slightly restless night the view from the tent was amazeballs!

And just like that, another trip done and dusted, scheming about the next adventure on the drive home.
