You know you’re onto a good thing when it’s so relaxed and chilled that you don’t care to get out of bed. Waking up to a cracker of a day, nothing beats it and the sleep in was well worth it with the amazing view from my doorstep…

The night was cool with temps dropping to 6 degree overnight, but I suppose that’s what camping in the High Country is all about.

And just to let you know again, it is so damn good having a great morning coffee in the middle of nowhere!

After a very lazy morning we decided to pack and head off. Packing when you’ve got a roof top tent is a luxury, even at a snails pace it is bloody fast!
My plan was to take the long route to Ghost Gully via Blue Waterholes Trail and explore, this unfortunately came to a quick end as there was a locked gate – NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service spending the tax payers hard earned well, thank you champs!

With no option but to turn around we headed back to the junction of Pockets Saddle Rd and Port Phillip Fire Trail, and turned off heading towards Currango Homestead for some morning tea.

After scoffing down what I thought was an apple pie that turned out to be sour cherry we drove through Long Plain (thanks Nimmitabel Bakery, the young lass that served me proved that the half asleep look was actually real!).
Port Phillip Fire Trail has some stunning scenery if you can handle the dry and dusty conditions of summer.

It wasn’t long before we pulled up to our next stop, Ghost Gully Campground and with the heat of Australia Day bearing on us, I quickly set up the awning and cracked open an Aussie craft beer in celebration of the sovereign country.

And what better way to end Straya Day than a hearty meal; flame grilled rib eye, a snag, corn (to help circulation) and salad. Followed by an ice cream and a few beverages by the campfire.

To be continued…
