Behold the Snowies solo adventure – Part 1

Posted on 17 January 2026

It’s hard to put my finger on it, but travelling solo is one of the best things that you can ever do. Once you get past the harsh realisation that it’s only you in some remote places; the solitude and lack of timelines or timeframes is truely appreciated.

This trip, like most usually starts at the service station filling up the fuel tank. I must admit I’ve been a little lazy in documenting it, for reference the trip took place from 3rd to 7th January, 2026.

The first stop was a quick “stretch of the legs”, pie and vanilla slice from Trappers Bakery at Goulburn, admittedly it’s not my favourite stop but it’s always open when you need it to be!

I did push on so as to make up for lost time being stuck in some holiday traffic, the constant suffering behind caravans sticking to 20kph under the speed limit and the odd freeway bandit ensuring that 10kph under the speed limit was a user friendly choice while hogging the overtaking lane!

Next stop was approximately 24km out of Yass, Taemas Bridge which was built in 1930 to facilitate thoroughfare across the Murrumbidgee River. It’s hard to believe that in less than five years the bridge will be 100 years old!

Wee Jasper Rd between Narrangullen and Wee Jasper is a windy scenic trek with the road itself narrow in spots to almost a single lane. Even though I traversed it through peak holiday season cars travelling it were minimal. The drive is well worth it.

Wee Jasper feels like a one man show, blink and you’ll just about miss it!

After checking in at the Reflections office I headed to Micalong Creek Reserve Campground along Nottingham Rd, which at times was quite washed out and in dire need of a grade. Being peak season the creek side spots were all taken, though I didn’t mind being set up twenty or so meters away to numb the chaos of kids swimming and rafting!

And so I settled in for the rest of the day under the shade of the awning, relaxed and feeling quite content with life’s decisions.

To be continued.
