Fishing was on my mind as I raced to find a spot that would accomodate my pulsating urges. I wanted so badly to hit the beach, land a salmon and be happy, but this was not part of the days plan as it was the last day at South West Rocks and we were leaving at around 9 am. I pulled the trusty Landruiser up at this single solitary jetty that faced perpendicularly to the Macleay River. Instead of getting the fishing rods out I got the camera and tripod out, took a few photos... and then fished.

Hoping to get some salmon, my friend and myself were disapointed at the conditions, a very choppy and at times rough surf, meant that if there was fish out there they would be extremely hard to catch. So we set to the task of fishing and after a few hours decided to retire as we didnt even get a bite! There was a time of furore when some body borders who basically had the whole beach to board decided they would do it near us, after I hurled some abuse at them and casted my line toward them they moved over a little. I have read about this kind of thing happening before, locals trying to piss fisher people off by surfing where people are fishing - how downright rude, I wish my size 5/0 gang hooks hooked one of these guys.
On a more pleasant note, Garie Beach is a spectacular place which is easily accessable through the national park, and you dont need a four wheel drive either. The surrounds seem untouched with a few scattered cottages on one of the surrounding hills, there is an old surf club that has now been closed/abandoned or waiting a rebuild and a beautiful wide beach. Its a place where anyone can see the untamed wild with bush surrounding the beach and the only human presence being surfers and bush walkers, though I think this will be different during the summer months. Garie Beach is a highly recommended place to visit.
The `Cruiser Today I got a Safari Snorkel fitted to my Landcruiser making it one step closer to the ultimate tourer that I am building. The snorkel will enable me to do some river crossings without worrying about water getting into my engine and causing a dreaded hydraulic lock up, rendering it useless. The snorkel also allows cool air to be inducted into the motor which in theory should make a bit more power and more importantly it will allow for clean air flow on those old and dusty country roads. shintara.netAs you have probably noticed, there are some changes happening to shintara, the main one is the comments section that is still up and running and hasnt decided to cark it yet. I still have to refine it to work alot better, but for now its doing the job. There has been a slight colour change with the fonts and as of the next update the random word is going to go, not sure what it will be replaced with. The long weekend is coming up and time is very hard to come by, so the next update will probably be in a couple of weeks, that is unless I can find some time to do an update inbetween. |
The SWAG A few weeks ago I spoke of the AAA Viking swag and writing a review on it, never fear this is still in the process of happening. But what is happening with the swag you may be asking. Well I have returned it and had my money refunded. Your probably thinking, "that must have been a shit swag if he returned it". Well put bluntly NO, it was a great swag and Stephen from Viking Swags deserves every bit of praise about how he handled the situation. See Stephen has a top quality product and he states that if your not happy with the swag or its not suited to what you want he will refund your money within 2 weeks of purchase. I wanted a few modifications done to the swag that would have made it very flimsy and it would have lost alot of strength and durability. After explaining what I wanted Stephen told me what was afore mentioned and said "I have a quality product, I can make these modifications but the product will lose its quality and I dont want people to think that a Viking Swag doesnt live up to the quality of its make." He then proceded to say that he could make the modifications and not warrant the swag or give me my money back - I elected the second option. As he promised I have my money back and I will recommend him to anyone who wants to buy a swag. My problem now is that I am in the market for a new swag! Stay tuned for a full review of the AAA Viking Swag with photos of the product. |
