Picture this, it’s 6:45pm, it’s freezing and you’re starving. You’ve just jumped in your truck with six fish cocktails and chips sitting on the passenger seat. You start driving and the food aroma engulfs the cabin, your mouth begins to salivate, the temptation is too much so you reach over rummaging through the packaging and grab a chip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The road works taking over Mt Victoria has made parking up in my usual lookout a hit and miss situation, heading further down the hill I just had to pull up…<\/p>\n\n\n

The feeling of satiety engulfed as the final chip was swallowed, I quickly realised how friggen cold it was! The mercy dash to Wallace began…<\/p>\n\n\n

The signs indicating no fires didn’t mean much, I needed warmth!<\/p>\n\n\n

Once the fire lulled I was up in the tent lickety split and into my warm bed where my eyes were quick to bid the evening farewell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next morning was cold, foggy and quite miserable, not a great view from the tent. A subtle reminder of why I dislike camping here.<\/p>\n\n\n

With Brad<\/a> heading over for 10am, I did the quick pack up of a surprisingly dry tent. Next stop the cako!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curry potato pie of the week downed along side an apple pie with cream<\/p>\n\n\n

The plan was to head to Turon River NP and spend the night a the Diggings ground. Since Covid, long time campers such as Brad and myself are amazed at how many common folk partake in it these days, pre-Covid and this place was ghost town, these days you really need a plan B!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately for us, plan B was Woolshed Flat and we arrived in the nick of time to secure the prime spot. Brad parked up to mark our turf and we jumped in the trusty Hilux to forage for some firewood. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We weren’t going to be cold!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As it is in the EST timezone, when the daylight savings switch is off the days become much shorter and with the change of season they’re much colder. For me it was an early dinner and some beverages by the fire taking in the clear, crisp night. <\/p>\n\n\n

Following another chilly night was a foggy morning, not the typical post card views from the tent, but I’d rather be camping!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some brekky and a coffee, and I was ready to roll. The day was shaping up to be a beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately Brad and his new found OCD was dragging the chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This time round we followed the Pinnacle FT from start to finish, airing up at Dark Corner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was followed by a quick stop at the car wash to make the trucks look somewhat respectable and removing any stigma around vehicle usage not related to “mall crawling”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With one final stop for my second dose of fish cocktails and chips, the weekend sadly came to an abrupt end. <\/p>\n\n\n
