I was stationed at Orange NSW for two weeks and there&#8217;s no guessing what I did during the weekend in between (18th &amp; 19th August).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ophir is a place I&#8217;ve wanted to visit for quite a number of years but it&#8217;s just never happened, in all honesty my preferred method to get there is via crossing the Macquarie River at Dixons Long Point, then following the track to Ophir. Plans don&#8217;t always go ones way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/shintara.net\/chronicles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_0549.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-215\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ophir is one of those old gold mining towns, in fact it is where the first significant gold was discovered in Australia. As the title to this post suggests, it&#8217;s been one to tick off the list and I will more than likely not return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Lbq5e0B2hqc?si=1kM4u1hcbTd1Hiq9\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campground is quaint and quite smallish with limited spots, it had been three months of no rain in the locality and as usually is the case the weekend when I&#8217;m camping there was a fair bit of rainfall leading in. With limited spots and the only other campers in the ground taking the best spot we had to settle for second best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" src=\"https:\/\/shintara.net\/chronicles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/DJI_0082-copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-216\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see from the photo above it was quite muddy. Needless to say, it&#8217;s always great to be away camping regardless of the weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/shintara.net\/chronicles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_0569.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-217\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The fire was big and nights were cool, I&#8217;m glad to report that I didn&#8217;t get followed by campfire smoke this time around &#8211; for some strange reason smoke has a fixation with me and wherever I sit or stand it will morph toward me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"1280\" src=\"https:\/\/shintara.net\/chronicles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_0577.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-218\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/shintara.net\/chronicles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_0555.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-219\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/shintara.net\/chronicles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_0547.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-220\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately for me I ended up with covid the week following, which probably explains my lack lustre experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bon voyage till the next camp!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been travelling a bit for work lately, it has its benefits.
